Join The Voice

Interested in journalism?  Would you like to take part in a student-run organization?  Want to see your name published?  Consider joining The Voice next semester to put your talent and skills to work!

There are currently openings for assistant editors in most sections of The Voice.  You can join in the spring semester, learn the ropes, and eventually move up to an editor's seat.

If you don't know if you have the full time to be a part of the staff?  You can submit articles as contributing writers as well.  The Voice always needs reporters to cover current events, authors interested in opinion columns, reviewers engaged in the latest games and movies, features writers, sports analysts, and more.

What do you get from being part of the staff?

• Bylines.  (And perhaps fan mail!)
• Published clips for your portfolio.  
• Hands-on experience in publishing.
• Fun!  Being part of our team and producing something together is a wonderful experience.

How to join:

• Reach out if you're interested.  Send an email to Josh Lloyd, editor in chief, at voiceeditor@huskies.bloomu.edu or to our advisors, Dr. Noon (mnoon@bloomu.edu) or Prof. Koslosky (jkoslosk@bloomu.edu). 
• Stop in at our office in Schuylkill (rear, lower level, across from Old Science) any Tuesday or Wednesday evening during production to meet the editors and see what we're about.

Although we are publishing our final issue for this semester, please consider joining us in the spring!

Savage Poetry Contest

Attention, all BU poets:

The Savage Poetry Award is given each spring to the Bloomsburg University student who submits the best poem to the panel of judges. 

The competition is open to all BU undergraduates.  The poet who takes first place will receive $150.

To enter the competition, writers should submit four xeroxed copies of as many as three poems.  The entrant's name should appear on a cover page only, along with an email address.  Entrees should be delivered to Dr. Terry Riley in the English Department.

Deadline: Friday, December 14th, 2018

The Warren Literary Journal Website

The Warren Literary Journal is proud to announce that as of this semester, there is now a website for students to explore!

Every spring semester, the Warren features writers and artists from Bloomsburg University.  The committee, from editorial work to graphic design, is completely student-run, and students from all disciplines are free to submit entries in photography, graphic and print art, creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry.  The journal also features the winners of university-sponsored contests such as the Fuller Fiction Award, the Peters Award for Creative Nonfiction, the Baillie Award for the Literary Essay, and the Savage Poetry Award.

Interested in learning more about entering your own work or reading last year's edition?  On their new website you may download the pdf copy, read the submission guidelines, and check up on upcoming deadlines.

Furthermore, the Warren is holding several contests this semester.  There will be:

• a micro essay contest starting Monday, October 1st
• a mini-poem contest starting Friday, November 2nd

Submission Opportunity: NeMLA

English majors and minors in all tracks are encouraged to submit research proposal for the 50th annual Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) convention to be held in Washington, D.C., March 21-24.

NeMLA is holding its first undergraduate research forum and seeks three- to five-minute oral presentations, plus poster presentations. These presentations must feature innovative arguments that converse with existing scholarship.  This year's theme is "Transnational Spaces: Intersections of Cultures, Languages, and Peoples." 

Interested students need to submit a 300-word abstract, bibliography, and 100-word bio by December 1. Those selected will be notified by NeMLA by January 1 and will receive mentorship on writing and structuring their presentations.  A $100 cash prize will be awarded by a panel of judges to the student with the most compelling presentation.

Bloomsburg students accepted for the conference are eligible for funding from the English Department (which pays conference registration fees for students) and well as travel grants from Professional U and the College of Liberal Arts. The department may also be able to provide transportation to the convention.
